IT Workshops


To cater for the needs of different students, IT workshops for preparing for the IT Proficiency Test will be run many times each academic year. 

Students are encouraged to join the workshops before attending the IT Proficiency Test. Prior reservation must be made before attending the workshops. 

*If you are admitted after 2012-2013, you have to attend the two compulsory workshops, “Internet Security” and “Computer Ethics & Copyrights”, to fulfill the IT graduation requirement.

Registration
For workshops which are held on MOOC*, during registration period, students can login https://edx.hsmc.edu.hk/ using their HSMC account for IT Workshops registration.  The instructions are provided here.  Once a student is enrolled, the student can complete the workshops on MOOC by viewing the materials and completing the exercise at the end of each workshop.

For workshops which are held physically (in classrooms or computer labs), during registration period, students can login eCampus>>MyHSMC>>eRegistration for IT Workshops registration. The result of enrollment will be shown on the eRegistration immediately.

* Currently we have two workshops, 7. Internet Security and 8. Computer Ethics and Copyrights available on MOOC.


Exemption
Students can be exempted from attending the IT Proficiency Test and the two compulsory workshops if they are:

  • HSSC / HSMC graduates who passed COM001 Information Technology Fundamentals or COM101 Introduction to Information Technology;
  • students / graduates who passed COM2004 Introduction to Information Technology.


Charge
For every enrolled IT workshop that is held on MOOC, there is no administration fee.
For every enrolled IT workshop that is held physically (in classrooms or computer labs), there is an administration fee of $200, which is waived unless an enrolled student is absent from the IT workshop.  If a student is absent from an enrolled IT workshop, the student will not be able to enroll in another IT workshop or IT Proficiency Test until the administration fee is deposited to the college account.


Important Reminder
If a student is late for 15 minutes or absent in his/her enrolled workshop that is held physically (in classrooms or computer labs), the administration fee of $200 will not be waived.  The student needs to settle the fee before he/she can enroll in another IT workshop or IT Proficiency Test.


Cancellation
An IT Workshop can be cancelled because of low enrollment, bad weather, or other unforeseeable reasons.  In case an IT Workshop is cancelled because of these reasons, the workshop will not be rescheduled and the enrolled students will be notified promptly.  Affected students can enroll in other available workshops through eRegistration again.
